MINIMUM WAGE FOR CONTRACT WORKERS
43. DR. K. GOPAL:
Will the Minister of LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT be pleased to state:
(a)whether the Government has fixed/proposes to fix a minimum monthly wage of Rs. 10,000/- for contract workers in the country and if so, the details thereof;
(b)whether the said proposal has evoked strong reaction from the industry;
(c)if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto;
(d)whether the Government has held consultation/received suggestions from various stakeholders in the matter; and
(e)if so, the details thereof and the present status thereof?

(a) to (e): Considering the wage security for the contract workers, proposal for rationalization of wages for contract workers, so as to ensure that the minimum monthly wage of such workers does not fall below Rs. 10,000/-, was under consideration of the Government. After due deliberation, a draft Notification for amending Rule 25(2)(iv) of the Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Central Rules, 1971 was issued to give effect to the above stated objective and comments of stakeholders were solicited vide Notification No. G.S.R. 368(E) dated 30.03.2016. Based on comments/suggestions received from stakeholders within the prescribed time limit, the matter is under further examination.
